Mary’s Shell

Marys Shell Thornton Cleveleys
A 30 second exposure of Mary’s Shell

Mary’s Shell, Cleveleys. This spectacular sight, is a huge piece of public sculpture that is covered and then exposed with the movement of the tide. Standing at four metres tall and eight metres long it is anchored to the beach on a bed of concrete. Made of metal, it is easily big enough for the kids to climb into while the tide is out, and of course it makes for a great long exposure subject. This picture was taken over 30 seconds.
A couple of hundred metres away to the left of this imposing sculpture but a bit further into the Irish Sea is another piece of sculpture, The Ogre. You can find this and other attractions in the area here.
